Fishing for Christmas carp in Czech ponds

Fishing for Christmas carp in Czech ponds
The carp tend to flock into deep waters. The fishermen use nets to catch them.
These men beat the water with sticks to make the fish move towards the fishnets.
The morning scene looks romantic but the work is physically very demanding.

The Czech lands have a long tradition of fishing. There are 52 thousand hectares of ponds, out of which 42 thousand are used for fish breeding. These days many of the ponds are being emptied of water and see fishermen flocking to the ponds early in the morning. They collectively fish for the carp. The early morning scene looks very romantic but in fact, it is a tough job.
