Torrential rains raged through the north-eastern part of the country last week, sweeping away houses and causing damages worth billions of crowns. Firefighters and army troops have been helping to rescue people and carry out clean-up operations. The flooding has been the worst natural disaster for the Czechs since the 2002 floods which killed 17 people.
