Prague - As expected, the Czech Chamber of Deputies approved the draft treaty on Croatia's entry into the European Union.

The draft treaty will now be sent to the foreign committee.

The Czech Republic has repeatedly backed the Western Balkan country's accession into the bloc.

No serious problems are expected during the ratification process, even though it requires a 3/5 majority of the Czech deputies and senators.

After the ratification, the treaty will have to be signed by the Czech president.

Croatia's membership in the EU has to be approved by all 27 current members. The ex-Yugoslavia country is scheduled to become the 28th member of the EU on July 1, 2013.

The accession treaty makes changes in the voting mechanisms of the European Council and the Council of EU. Croatia will have 12 deputies in the European Parliament.

The treaty also addresses financial matters and various transitional periods regarding issues such as agriculture, taxes, environment and the free movement of people, goods, and capital.

Croatia asked to join the EU in 2003. The accession talks started in 2005 and concluded in June 2011.
