Mladá Boleslav - A car that automatically shuts down its engine when waiting at traffic lights. This will be Škoda Auto's contribution to the the Paris Motor Show in the first half of October 2010. Škoda auto is a Czech carmaker and a subsidiary of the Volkswagen group.

Unlike in the previous years, when Škoda always presented new or radically changed car models at largest motor shows, this year will be different, as Škoda will only show modernized GreenLine ecological cars.

In addition to the tires with lowered rolling-resistance, changed aerodynamics, motors and gear-box, the new GreenLine models will have the above-mentioned start-stop system. According to Škoda's spokesman Evžen Krauskopf, the start-stop system will save 10 percent or more of gas.

In addition, the new GreenLine cars will have regenerative breaks which convert breaking energy into electric energy that can be used by the car. "During the process of reducing the car's speed, a part of the kinetic potential is returned back as electric energy, which thus does not have to be produced by the battery," Krauskopf explained.

Of course, a great deal of the energy consumption depends on the motor type. That's why the new Greenline cars are provided with turbodiesles - Fabia and Roomster GreenLines will have 1.2 Tdi 3-cylinder engines, while Octavia and Superb will have 1.6 TDi engines.

The first generation of the GreenLine cars was introduced in 2008 in Fabia, Octavia, Roomster and Superb variants.
