Prague - One of the closely watched trials of these days is coming close to an end. What makes the trial even more attractive for the media, is the fact it involves close friends of the Social Democrats' leader Jiří Paroubek.

Hotelier Bohumír Ďuričko who has been charged with murder was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison on Friday morning. He shot dead a son of Václav Kočka, owner of the Mathew Fair (Matějská pouť) in Prague - Holešovice last October.

It happened at a party in Prague's Monarch restaurant following a launch of Jiří Paroubek's book.

The Monarch restaurant personnel were the only unbiased witnesses at the trial and they helped the court decide the sentence.

It was supposed to be Ďuričko that started the fight, boasting he has more money than Kočka.

Ďuričko's lawzer filed an appeal against Friday's verdict but he will remain imprisoned.

The court ordered him to pay for damage worth CZK 2 million to the victim's close relatives.
