The best beer of the year? Kozel from Velké Popovice

Journalists prefer Pilsner Urquell and Gambrinus

Prague - Kozel Medium has been ranked the best beer of the year. It is a pale lager made in Velké Popovice, a little town nearby Prague.

In the same category Kozel Premium took the second place, followed by Litovel Premium from Haná, Moravia.

Among draft beer, Zubr, Holba and Patriot were appreciated as the best and in the section of dark beer Rebel and Janáček scored the highest.

The best non-alcoholic beer category was won by Radegast Birell from the Radegast brewery. Svijanský Vozka from Svijany brewery and Litovel Free from the Litovel brewery were the second best in this category that not many Czechs ever try.

Journalists enjoyed one of the most popular beers in the country - Pilsner Urquell. Bernard and Gambrinus were their second and third choice.

The annual competition in which 64 brands competed in all categories was organized by Research Institute of Brewing and Malting.
