Mladá Boleslav - Škoda Auto, the Czech car-maker and part of the Volkswagen Group, released a set of photos of its new version of Škoda Superb this week.

The earlier version of Superb was a commercial success.

Škoda has even won a contract to supply Israeli government with the model.

World premiere in March

The world premiere of the new Superb will take place at the Geneva International Motor Show next month.

The mass production of the new limousine, which is longer and wider than its predecessor, is to begin the same month.

It is expected that costumers in the Czech Republic will be able to buy the new model as early as next summer.

Both manual and automatic transmission will be available with the new Superb as well as above-the-average number of nine air-bags, the company said in its press-release.

Among other new features are an electronic parking assistant or newly improved electronically controlled air-con system.

No longer butt of jokes

The new model should help Škoda further penetrate the markets abroad where its image has undergone a radical change after the company had been privatised in the 1990s.

Company whose cars were once a butt of jokes has transformed into an increasingly successful and highly competitive brand.
